March, 2000
Our New Home
The last week of March was an exciting time for us -- our plans finally started coming
together as we picked up our new home, a 40-foot (and then some) year 2000 Mountain Aire
diesel pusher by Newmar.
Here's Connie standing next to the rig, in Coachlight RV park (a nice clean park at the
dealer where we picked it up):

We drove it home to load it up with some necessities for its maiden voyage, a 2-week trip
to Texas to get it registered and do some long-overdue visiting with friends.
Here's a picture of it in front of our house (notice Connie
in the driver's seat, you can barely see her):

We're Texans!
After a 1700-mile round trip to Texas and back, we are now registered Texans.
We can't say that we had a lot of fun on the trip, since it was mostly running errands,
but we did relax a little (very little) and got to visit some friends in Dallas. It was
fun, though, (and educational) talking to people in the campgrounds when we had a chance.
Both the other RVers and the campground owners really are as friendly as everyone says.
At least we got a lot of experience (especially driving!). The small towns along 2-lane
highways (who suggested those anyway???), not to mention city
traffic right after school gets out, can really be nerve-racking
to a first-time "bus" driver. We made it OK,
though, and I'm starting to get some feeling back in my hands now. ;-)
Now the real "fun" begins -- sorting out what we are going to keep, moving it in to the rig,
put the house on the market, sell everything that won't fit in
the motorhome, and officially become "full-timers". We'll stick around Kansas City long enough
to close on the house, then we'll probably go up to the Wyoming/Montana area for the summer,
and try to attend an RV rally or two if we make it in time. Actually, anything can happen depending
on when we leave and what we feel like doing (and what the weather is like!).
April-July, 2000
During this time of getting the house sold, we basically stayed in the RV at night
and went to the house during the day to work on the move. It was a lot of work!
Things really got hectic once we had a contract on the house -- suddently we had to
prepare and have a moving sale, and basically get rid of everything that we can't
take with us. Lets just say that we hope to never go through that again!
